#language en This page discusses logistical details of the initial buildout (and eventually the "real", 1000+ people buildout), such as how to get building supplies and everyday supplies to the build site and what to do before we have a building ready. == Transporting supplies == === Air === Air transport will be essential for initial supplies, but is not ideal for transportation of heavier goods (such as building materials) or transporting in poor weather conditions (as the area tends to have, primarily rain). Landing at Crawfish Lake is ideal for this (see NootkaProject/Aviation), as it is directly adjacent to the settlement area. === Water === For larger/heavier goods and transporting in poor weather, a boat/barge and truck(s) are probably best. We could theoretically use the existing dock and road connections at Kendrick Camp on the east coast of the island (directly across from the south tip of Bodega Island). However, the logging companies might not like that or it may be too busy for us to practically share the facilities. Furthermore, the road connection between there and the settlement area is mostly along the main road that all other roads funnel into on their way to Kendrick Camp so there may be a lot of contention with logging trucks, etc. (especially as it is probably only one lane wide). According to Google Maps driving directions, the road distance from the settlement to Kendrick Camp is around 18km. Perhaps a better option (as we would have more control and less coordination is needed with logging companies) would be to construct a new dock around https://maps.google.com/?q=49.7640,-126.8630&t=h and then use the existing logging roads (plus a 1km connector road through an already-logged area to the coast) around the mountain and along the west side of Ewart Lake. This cuts down the road distance a little (to maybe 15km) and might make it more convenient to get supplies from the mainland (if coming from further south like Tofino), though may make it more difficult if coming from Gold River. Note that the area around the proposed dock is a little shallow (5-10m on approach, according to attachment:NootkaProject/NootkaProject22.pdf), but should be deep enough for a decent-sized barge/boat (Seawaymax boats are restricted to a 7.92m draft and they still have tons of hauling capacity). ---- CategoryNootkaProject
