Satellite imagery
Relative age of different imagery sets
Based on how much forest has been logged, we can tell how old certain satellite imagery is relative to other imagery. For now we'll use "oldest, really old, old, new, really new, newest" to differentiate (these characteristics are globally unique, not just within specific mapping tools):
- Google
- newest: z=12 and lower ("zoomed out")
- really new: z=13 and higher ("zoomed in")
- Yahoo!
- really old: zoom=13 and lower ("zoomed out") - forests still look nice
- new: zoom=14 and higher ("zoomed in") - very close to "really new" (Google); note that some eastern parts of the island are still "oldest"
- Bing
- old: lvl=13 and lower ("zoomed out")
- oldest: lvl=14 and higher ("zoomed in")
